The ZR engine family, introduced in 2007 by Toyota and used by Lotus in the later versions of the Lotus Elise, uses a DOHC 16-valve cylinder head with a 4-cylinder die-cast block. Engines in this family are equipped with Toyota’s duel VVT-i technology that optimizes both intake and exhaust valve timing. This engine family is also the first to use Toyota’s Valvematic system. The option used by Lotus in cars like the Lotus Elise Cup R and Cup S is a supercharged version of the 1798cc version.
